What trustees need to know about campaigning

This page is free to all

Trustees have ultimate responsibility for ensuring that your organisation stays within the law. This means that you need to make sure that they are fully involved in strategic decisions on campaigning and campaign progress.

Our Trustee guide to campaigning and influencing outlines what you need to tell your trustees about campaigning. It is useful if all of your trustees have read this booklet.

The guide includes:

  • what you can do in campaigning as a charity
  • what is campaigning?
  • the principles of campaigning
  • questions trustees should ask about a campaign.

Bespoke campaigning guidance

The Get Legal website offers free and bespoke written guidance for charities on the regulation of their campaigning activities, based on responses to questions about their legal structure, governance and campaign plans.
