Get ready for May 2018 when the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into force. The GDPR will significantly extend your company's obligations and responsibilities under the Data Protection Act. For example:

  • Individuals will have greater rights over their data.
  • There are stricter rules on obtaining consent, which must be freely given, specific, informed and unambiguous.
  • Organisations will need to review their privacy notices and tell individuals the legal basis for processing their information.
  • Organisations will be more accountable, must demonstrate compliance and must report data protection breaches.
  • The maximum fine has increased to £17 million in case of a breach.

This course will teach you how to prepare for these obligations, and will also review continuing data protection responsibilities. You will learn about:

  • What steps to take now to prepare for the new General Data Protection Regulation in 2018
  • What is lawful consent and when you need to obtain new consent
  • The legal conditions for processing personal data and what to include in a privacy notice
  • Managing and protecting employee and client records
  • How to protect data when you work from home
  • When monitoring by CCTV and other methods is allowed, and the rules you must comply with
  • Responding to third party requests for information about employees and other individuals
  • Employee and client rights to access information about themselves

The session will include practical case studies, and an opportunity to ask the trainer about any live data protection, employment and HR issues.
