We often think of the act of philanthropy being solely about money: a generous financial gift. But what if we extended the definition of philanthropy to be about the gift of knowledge? What if, instead of considering who needs, generates, and has power over money, we considered flows of knowledge?

Funders are increasingly seeing a role for themselves not only in providing financial support for charities but in offering their own expertise and facilitating the sharing of learning among grantees. At the same time, recent trends in knowledge generation, curation and distribution, from What Works Centres to practical learning networks, offer huge potential opportunities for an increase in impact by learning from evidence-based practice.

This event, in partnership with The Bulldog Trust, will challenge funders to rethink their strategies and investments around knowledge, both within their own practice and in what they fund.

The event will ask:

  • Are charities and funders making best use of the information available to us? What are the barriers to doing better? What role can funders play in supporting this?
  • How can funders help others access the information they create and have?
  • What does having a research strategy mean?
