Learning outcomes
By the end of the course you will have:
- a basic overview of the voluntary sector
- a better understanding of the key legal responsibilities of trustees
- an understanding of the different legal structures that charities can take
- an understanding of the liabilities of trustees and how these can be limited
- knowledge of how the board should best operate alongside staff and volunteers.

Dan Francis is NCVO's governance consultant - he is responsible for NCVO’s governance consultancy offer, focusing on governance reviews, board performance and trustee training. He joined NCVO from the National Union of Students (NUS) where, as a long standing consultant, he supported the organisational development of local students’ unions as charities.
